Porsche Power Steering Filter
If your power steering is making a whiney noise and is full of fluid, or you are replacing a power steering component, replace the power steering filter. Where is it? It's inside the reservoir and not serviceable. It is often overlooked during repair. As a matter of fact it is required by Porsche to be replaced during any major power steering component replacement to not void the part's warranty.
Just think, if the pump fails, there is metal floating in the system. Hydraulic hoses fall apart from the inside. To safeguard such an expensive part it pays to just replace it.
For t he "whiney noise" part mentioned, the filter is clogged causing the pump to work harder, and at times pull air in from the connections. Even though fluid might not leak out, air can be pulled into a connection (it 's molecularly smaller).
Part # 928 347 015 05 (same part on lots of BMW's also, make sure to look yours up by application).
